Tawakkul and the Practitioner's Courage

MMS Editorial · September 28, 2026 · 8 min read

What does reliance upon Allah mean for someone who trains to face danger? Tawakkul is not passivity; it is the completion of preparation.

A well-known hadith tells of a man who asked whether he should tie his camel or trust in Allah, and was told: "Tie it, and trust." Tawakkul begins after preparation, not instead of it.

Preparation as obligation

For the practitioner, this means training seriously, honestly and consistently. Once that work is done, the outcome is entrusted to Allah, and this frees the mind from the paralysis of fear.

Courage without recklessness

Courage rooted in Tawakkul is calm. It neither seeks confrontation nor flees from responsibility.
